LOF finally got it's 2010 SANTA vs GRINCH Theme Day off the ground after delaying due to snow and ice and it was questionable as to wether it would be held today for the same reason. We started with only 26 players, but slowly added players as the day progressed and word got out we were playing. Missions 1 and 2 ("Some Assembly Required" and "Deck the Halls") were played in a downpour of snow while missions 3 and 4 ("Get 'chu Some" and "Special Delivery") were played under blue skies.

Santa's workshop was 'pretty as a postcard' in the early morning snow. Just another awesome photo by Jeff Shipman.

Mission 1, "Some Assembly Required", made both teams fight through each other, gather 4 sleigh pieces, return them (1 at a time) to their home base, and assemble them. First team to do this won, receiving 500 points and avoiding a 5 minute 'delay' penalty at the start of mission 3. Thanks to Shannon (Grinch) Franks for making the sleigh parts.

The sleigh pieces also doubled as shields several times throughout the battles. Max (Jacob McCracken) uses a sleigh piece here to avoid a barrage of shots from a squad of troublesome elves.

Some of Santa's elves.

Santa, Rudolph and the elves won the first mission due to their game plan and the Grinch's team having multiple gun malfunctions. Above, Rudolph (Matthew Marsh) delivers the fourth and final sleigh piece to their base. This opened the scoreboard at Santa: 500 and Grinch: 250.

During Mission 1, the players were also able to bump their scores up by collecting 192 candy canes (worth 10 points each) hanging everywhere in the woods. The battles must have really gotten their attention as only 2 candy canes (for the Santa team) were handed in. This changed the score to Santa: 520 and Grinch: 250.

Mission 2, "Deck the Halls", required each team to turn the city field upside down looking for ornaments to decorate their own tree. The team with the most ornaments on their tree after 20 minutes won the mission. Santa's team had 20 ornaments and Grinch's had 15. This brought the score to Santa: 1020 and Grinch: 500.

After Mission 2, the players broke for lunch. Meanwhile, the girls slipped out back to judge the trees and vote for the 'best' tree.

The girls awarded the 'Best Tree' award (250 points) to the Grinch team. Seems they liked the 'Charlie Brown tree' look. They claim the ornament at the top (bending the branch) won them over. This brought the score to Santa: 1020 and Grinch: 750.

All day long, prizes were given away to the players. Some gifts were paintball items (jerseys, packs, hoppers, guns, etc.) and some were candy. Among the prizes, LOF gave away 15 paintball jerseys!!!

After lunch, things started at full speed with Mission 3, "Get 'chu Some", where teams fought through the city, collecting toys for Santa and Whoville decorations for Grinch. Only Santa and Grinch were allowed to touch the toys and decorations.....wait a minute.....is THAT Rudolph holding a toy (baby doll)?!......Bad reindeer, Rudolph, bad reindeer!!! Somebody get a ref!

Every SANTA vs GRINCH Theme Day, there's that unavoidable moment when Santa and Grinch go toe-to-toe. Here, Grinch (Shannon Franks) and Santa (Mike Webb) prepare for battle.

While the Grinch was busy battling it out, Santa (Mike Webb) and Rudolph (Matthew Marsh) slipped in behind the Grinch's back and took a key toy (chainsaw).

Despite their efforts, Santa and his elves fell to the Grinch's forces in Mission 3. This brought the score to Santa: 1270 and Grinch: 1500.

In Mission 4, "Special Delivery", teams were required to deliver items to the 'correct' houses in Whoville. The first team to 'correctly' deliver 6 items would be declared the winner of this mission. It came down to the wire, but just minutes before the Grinch delivered his 6th item, Santa and Rudolph dropped off their 6th item, winning the game.

Victory is ours! ROAST BEAST for everyone! Final Score? Santa: 1770 to Grinch: 1750.

After the game, players gathered around in the front yard to watch the drawings for prizes.

Nathaniel Locke and Dustin Mahaffey both won prizes including boxer shorts and a smores kit.

David Brooks brought out his 2 sons for their very first day of paintball fun. These guys were a pleasure to meet and we look forward to their return to LOF. David also won a Tippmann 98 Custom (Platinum Series) marker in the drawings.

Congratulations to our Kingman Eraser Pistol winner, Brandon Pace. If this wasn't enough pictures for you, check out the hundreds of photos taken at the SANTA vs GRINCH game by clicking here.
